A Penne All’Amatriciana made from the heart to help raise money for the people of Amatrice.

The devastating earthquake that hit central Italy this Summer has not only destroyed hundreds of local lives, but also taken precious cultural heritage away from us all.

At the heart of the disaster, the beautiful medieval town of Amatrice has been utterly devastated, some 298 lives lost and over 4,500 Italians left homeless, whilst precious homes and world heritage buildings lay in ruins.

In a world where everything moves so quickly, disasters like this are all to easily forgotten. After the initial helping hands are withdrawn, the local people are left to deal with the pain by themselves.

That’s why we thought we’d use the age old method of bringing people and lives together - great food. Throughout 2017 we’ll continue to donate £1 from each dish to the Italian Red Cross. The money raised will go directly to support the Earthquake in Amatrice Appeal

Getting to Casa Romana during roadworks

As many of you will have seen, Leicester is currently receiving an overhaul of its road, cycle and pedestrian routes, and this has finally reached our peaceful casa. For the foreseeable future, access via vehicle from Belvoir Street is no longer available.

However, Albion Street will remain accessible via the following routes:

Wellington Street turning right onto Chatham Street and then left onto Albion Street
or
Granby Street turning left onto Dover Street and then right onto Albion Street

Parking is at a premium on Albion Street, and although we have a car park, it is small and often overcrowded, numerous car parks are within 5 minutes walk and are generally preferable.
